According to Kevin Kruse in his article the benefits
and drawbacks of e- learning, like no other training form, e- learning promises
to provide a single experience that accommodates the three distinct learning
styles of auditory learners, visual learners, and kinesthetic learners. It also
offers individualized instruction, which print media cannot provide, and
instructor-led courses allow clumsily and at great cost. In conjunction in
assessing needs, e- learning can target specific needs. In addition, with well-
delivered synchronous distance education, and technology like message boards,
chats, e- mail, and tele- conferencing, potential drawback is reduced. Kruse’s
gave the advantages and disadvantages of E- learning to the trainer or
organization and to the learner. The advantages of e- learning to the trainer
or organization identified in this article are: it reduced overall cost, the
learning times also reduced, it helps increase retention, consistent delivery,
expert knowledge and proof of completion and certification. While the
advantages to the learner are: on- demand availability, self- pacing,
interactivity, and confidence. Hence, the disadvantages of e- learning to the
trainer or organization are: up- front investment, technology issues, some
inappropriate content, and cultural acceptance. On the other hand, the
disadvantages of e- learner to the learners are some technology issues,
portability of training, and lastly the reduced social and cultural interaction
can be a drawback.
As
I had mentioned from the second lesson, this kind of technique is not that
favorable to teachers at Samal National High School- Annex. For the reason
that, there are only limited computers available in the school as well as the
internet connection towers are too far from the school. But as I was observed
from my critique teacher as well as the other teachers, they are open to learn
more about this kind of help or strategy in teaching. Because students nowadays
are much acquainted in technologies.
The
advantages and disadvantages of e- learning are well presented at the first
paragraph, for it tackles the summary of this article. So in addition, in my
interpretation of about e- learning, the advantages of this are: class work can be scheduled around work and
family, it reduces travel time and travel costs for off-campus
students, students can study anywhere as long as they have access to a computer
and Internet connection, and self-paced learning modules allow
students to work at their own pace. While e- learning disadvantages are: learners
with low motivation or bad study habits may fall behind, without the routine
structures of a traditional class, students may get lost or confused about
course activities and deadlines, instructor may not always be available when
students are studying or need help, and slow Internet connections or older
computers may make accessing course materials frustrating.
